Blunt Lancet makes the front page of Diabetes Mine

Hey all!

It appears that the fictional diabetes rock band, Blunt Lancet, has made headlines over at Diabetes Mine today.  And I got a mention!  :)

Read it here:  http://www.diabetesmine.com/2011/01/blunt-lancet-rocks-the-diabetes-community.html

And apparently, there's actual merch you can buy now - I'm stunned.  (And totally ordering a shirt!)

hooooooooooooly craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaap!

so excited!!

So this is or isn't a real band? And how was a lady who wasn't even in the "band" able to profit from merch for the "band"? Just curious.

Hi acousticmelo,

As I mentioned above, it's a fictional band - meaning that, no, it's not real.  (It's much like Spinal Tap - if you're not sure what that is, Wikipedia can help you out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/This_Is_Spinal_Tap).  And there are no profits - as you'll see in the article, the proceeds go to the Diabetes Hands Foundation.  I'm not sure which "lady" you're referring to.

Hilariousssssssss

Better yet, watch the movie. Kim, do your amps go to 11 also?

Yes, and our lancing devices click up to 11, too!  :D

hahaha.  That is so funny!

Kimface, have you ever had your head examined to see what exactly is rattling around in there to make you come up with these ideas? Seriously you got merch on your fictitious band. How are sales going btw? And will there be total sportage in Florida? I think I may have to buy a messenger bag or something just to wear. You can have an unofficial Blunt Lancent Day or something.

Yes!  Blunt Lancet Day!!  I HAVE to be there for that!

It's all about the underground movement. I tell ya, it could all turn into a thang.

ain't nothing but a d-thang

Brian - There are plenty of things wrong with me besides my pancreatic function - I've never claimed otherwise.  ;)  And the merch thing was totally not my idea - that was all Kelly Rawlings (editor of Diabetic Living magazine, and fellow T1)!  We totally need to have a Blunt Lancet day in Orlando!

should we make d-coaster day also blunt lancet day? i'm thinking so...

It would make it easier for us to find each other. Granted some of us could all just run around waving our pumps in the air.

Brian, everyone will be waving their pumps in the air at CWDFFL. Diabetes is the norm there, you know...

Kim,

I just clicked on the CWD web site for the first time.  Since I live in Orlando I'm thinking that conference sounds great.  What do you know about it, like how many people attend etc.  Just curious.

Jason

Jason,

Awesome! This will be my first year attending, so I only really know what I've read online, and what others who have attended in the past have told me. Apparently it's the most widely-attended conference that is type 1-specific. If you want to read some personal accounts, here are a couple of blog post accoutns that come to mind:

http://scottsdiabetes.com/?s=Friends+for+Life

http://sixuntilme.com/blog2/2009/07/cwd_not_like_it_still_do_it.html

and the CWD official website, for everyone else who doesn't know what we're talking about, is http://www.childrenwithdiabetes.com/activities/Orlando2011/

Both of those people are on the "faculty", too, so they have a better grasp of what goes on than I do.  :)  I'm mainly looking forward to hanging out with some DOC people, myself...

I didn't say the waving pumps in the air like it was a bad thing. I was more concerned with waving the pumps around on rides and ripping the site out. That would be. A group convergence in the bathroom to change sites.
