Bleeding from Dexcom sensor site

Last night I inserted a new Dexcom sensor into my 8 year old's upper arm.  I pinched up the skin, like I always do, and inserted the needle and then removed it.  As soon as I removed the inserter I noticed blood seeping from under the site. Before I could pull the site out there was blood dripping down her arm and onto the floor.  There was probably 1 to 2 tsp. of blood.  Her arm stopped bleeding quickly with some pressure but I am perplexed as to why this happened.

Anyone else experience this?  I have a call out to my Dexcom trainer but haven't heard back from her yet.

I've had bleeding, but never that much. You probably just hit a little blood vessel. I can't imagine it would be a big deal unless it's affecting the readings. Once, I had some bleeding and it took the sensor a full 24 hours to get to a point where it was accurate. I assumed the two were related, but I don't know for sure.
