Ahhhh.. The joys of a fresh infusion set

Don't you love the feeling of throwing out your days old infusion set and putting a clean fresh one on?

To me, it's like getting in a nice warm bed with freshly washed sheets just after a shower.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is an infusion set?

for most pump users, it's the part that sticks through your skin to deliver insulin.  most infusion sets are small teflon tubes (cannula) held in place with a band-aid type sticky tape.    if you have a pod pump, the tubing and cannula are covered by the pump frame and so you can't see it.  The recommendation by the pump manufacturer is: you should change your infusion set every 3 days.

here's an example of an infusion set by medtronics

but there are many types including metal needles.

regarding the original post -  changing the sets, no, I like a well worn, proven set to the first 2 hours of a new set any day.

I've only been pumping for a few weeks now, but after a couple days my adhesive is usually all peeling off and has lint stuck to it and stuff.  It's not pretty.  Maybe I'm just not gentle enough with them... I did accidently rip one out last night, which turned into a giant fiasco which lasted from 2 AM-5 AM where my bg was close to 400.  Oops.

I actually really dread putting in a new site! When I first started pumping over a year ago I was cool with it. But now that I have all kinds of scar tissue and bad sites it annoys me!

There is nothing better than an new site!! there is nothing worse than needing a new site and you have forgotten to order them :( haha

Yeah, Tim!  I'm glad someone agrees wit me!  What I especially love is taking out my old site, then getting to shower completely NAKED then putting a new one in after.  I say this, because it is what I just did.  Yeah for new sites!

Courtney,  This is exactly what I do.  I love new sites.  I find that if I ahve a site in for more then two days its starts getting irritated.  Not in an "Ahhhh infection!" way but in an annoying "I'd like you to go away" sort of a way.

DITTO on the SHOWER.  That is the best part.  Then drying off sans infusion site to worry about........oh yeah baby!!!

A new infusion set is good as long the new site feels comfortable.  I always worry about getting one in a blood vessel.  After going to the lake swimming, then it seems like a new site is a must since the thought of my old site seems so dirty.
