Advice and Luck!

Well it appears that I'll be flying to Alabama from California, on Mon 1/17. I am going for a job interview and this is my first time flying as a member of Club 1. I am going to get a letter from my Dr. and I know to carry my stuff with me. Anything else????? Advice and Luck looking for lot's LOL

Lots and lots of luck for you, Keith!! I know you've got it in you :o)

Hope you get your member felt up by a nice big, husky TSA agent ;)

Hope your interview goes great!

At airport security don't mention anything about being diabetic or carrying needles or anything else with you.  Just go through and you shouldn't have any problems.  And if you use a pump, disconnect and put it in your carry on.

Good Luck Keith !!!!

Good luck on your interview!! I've never had too many problems with security when I've flown...I would bring lots of extra testing supplies-I always check my blood sugar alot when I travel since I'm out of my routine and it can mess with my numbers. Good luck again!! :)

Good luck!

I usually have problems with sercurity even though I have a Dr. letter so...I dunno what that's about. But it's only when I'm flying in and out of O'Hare. You'll be fine though. Good luck again!

Good luck!!  I haven't had any issues with airport security, and I usually wear my pump (MM) through security.  If you don't mention anything to them, you should be fine :)

Thanks everyone!! I was beginning to wonder if anybody wanted an old man. LOL

After I went through airport security with my pump on and the next day it was acting up really weird. the pump company says that it could have been like the magnetic field around all the security or from going through the detector. They suggested that I have them hand inspect it next time. Which is what we did and it was no problem.

Personally, I've had some people in security get a little wierd if I don't tell them I'm diabetic and then they find the needles. We put all the diabetes stuff they wouldn't like (juice boxes, needles, sites....) in a plastic bags and then when we got to security we just took the bag out and put it in it's own container so that they saw it and then just told them I was diabetic and everything was fine. I probably wouldn't just not tell anyone. Maybe it's my luck, but they always find it and then it's kind of wierd having to explain it....

Good luck. Hope the interview goes well.

I read on the Animas website that you should request a hand inspection of the pump (http://www.animas.com/about-insulin-pump-therapy/traveling-with-diabetes). We're going to be flying in Februry and March, so I'm getting prepared!

The last time we flew Sarah wasn't yet on a pump. I put all of her diabetic supplies in one of those insulated lunch coolers and just explained it to the person at security. At our airport they just looked and sent us through, but on the East Coast they insisted on doing a wand check of the person to whom the supplies belonged (a ten year old girl) - which I found a little irritating, but we went with it.

I haven't flown since being diagnosed, so I have nothing new to add.  Just wanted to wish you tons of luck with the job interview.
