I was diagnosed with T1D in 1974, at age 10. I am currently 55. I was called a brittle diabetic when diagnosed: now I just drive my CDE crazy with trying to come up with a way to control my BGs. I’m not overly compliant, because compliance doesn’t get me anywhere (see above.) But, I have a tattoo that reminds me I’m T1D 24-7-365. I’m also an asthmatic, have numerous bizarre food intolerances (carrots - seriously?!?), horrible environmental allergies, depression and anxiety and have had breadt cancer. I say I’m my parents’ failed science experiment!!
