Hey everyone! I’m Sam and I was diagnosed March of 2019 so I’m still really new to living with T1. My mom has T2 diabetes so I wasn’t completely in the dark about some things, but I’m learning everyday how everything affects me personally. I didn’t (or I don’t recall) experiencing the classic signs and symptoms of T1–I unfortunately found out the hard way by going to the ER in DKA. I spent about a month in the hospital as I was also being treated for an undiagnosed retro-pharyngeal abscess that had become infected with Strep-A, which was a precipitating factor behind the DKA. But I survived that whole crazy ordeal and I’m just so blessed to get to live this life and meet all of you! Some days may be dark and hard to get through, but I’ve found that the sun shines brightest after the darkest storms and that feeling down and out about things you cannot change doesn’t do anyone, least of all yourself, any good in the long run. So smile when you can and keep on trucking when the wind is in your face. You can do this.
