I wonder how low is low also. I have heard people pass out at 50 or so, but, luckily i have never really passed out, and I have been 20-30?? I guess every one is different
I was 23... but I couldn't feel it. That scares me that a reading of 50 can mess me up more than a 23
Yeah that is really wierd on what affects people and just how low a pass out is. I have never passed out before (knock on wood) but I have gotten so low where I felt like I was in another body and I was completely out of it.
My lowest was 27. It was kind of weird because I didn't really feel it.
14...don't really remember too much of that night! then in the morning i was 325...i hate low low blood sugars (less than 30) cause they always lead to highs; for me at least...

Yeah, you see that low number in your half-conscious state and just guzzle down as much sugar as you can out of panic. : /
For my first 40 years there was no device for testing my BS. There is no way of knowing how low I was with hypos back then. I started testing in the mid 1980s. I used to have bad hypos at night and a few during the day, until meters became available. I still had some hypos and my wife always helped me. Then I found out about carb counting in the 1990s. There were very few times I needed help after that, because I was taking more accurate insulin doses. After starting pumping in 2007, I have never needed help because my lows are not bad. My meter gives me a "Lo" response when I am below 20 or so, so I don't know the lowest I have been since I started using meters. I am so pleased that I do not have bad hypos anymore.
umm my lowest was 30 i think..
Just curious as to what kinds of problems you have had on NPH....what are you doing now and how is it working? Thanks for any info you can provide.
My lowest ever was in the middle of the night, when I was pregnant with my oldest son. I (by the grace of God) woke up and stumbled into the living room, tested....27. Crap. I just remember eating a whole crap load of whatever I could find. I felt so..drunk almost. Don't like it. That was four years ago. Last lowest was 35.
When I was in high school, I remember having a BG reading of 27. The weird thing was I didn't get the low symptoms until after I saw the number on the meter. Nothing major happened though, just felt shaky.
I had a 23 once, in the morning after drinking the night before. Wife came downstairs to find me passed out on the couch after I had gone downstairs to get food unsuccessfully, with a "I don't know what you're saying" vibe responding to her questions.
I remember an episode of Law and Order where someone was found dead with a blood glucose of 9. Holy bleep, huh?
The lowest number I've ever seen on the meter is 39 but I'm pretty sure I've been lower. I still have pretty good low symptoms and if I feel low enough that time is essential or if I'm having symptoms like muscles jerking, I don't try to to test, I run for the carbs. Last time I had one of those I tested about a half hour after eating a ton o' carbs and was 59. Sometimes if I'm low at night I wake up from dreaming about food . . . it's like my subconcious is trying to tell me what I need. Thankfully, these time are very rare. Once when I lived alone in my 20s and had the flu I woke up low enough that my arm kept jerking and sloshing the juice out of the glass - had to use half a carton to get what I needed. That was the worst I've ever had. I sometimes wonder how low I actually was. The really bad lows went away quite a few years ago when I started testing way more often each day.
to amber buller: holy crap!
its possible to be that low and still like not passed out on the ground?!
how low do you go when you pass out?!
my lowest has been 25 that was my first year when i was on shots and i was asleep so i was already out of it and i dont know what it felt like luckily, and luckily my mom checks me at night!
my lowest low??? 47. about 3 months ago
Richard - your post brought me back years. I lived the first few years with no blood testing too (from diagnosis in 78 to the mid-80s like you). The ability to test my own sugar levels was like a gift from heaven. I've often wondered how on earth my mother kept me alive without that tool those first few years. Like you, carb counting brought me greater accuracy. The other big one for me that helped was when newer faster acting insulins were developed and I could say good bye to NPH. I never did quite get the hang of matching my meal timings perfectly to its peaks. Love my meter, love my humalog. And most recently, love my pump. Diabetes is still a pain in the kiester but boy I'm glad to have some of the tools we have today that weren't always there. They've made my life so much easier.
25. And I was still walking around Wal-Mart and felt normal...minus being starving.
My lowest has been (canadian measurement) 1.8, which is 32.4 in the american measurement.
Wow! That's very low. I was recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, and the first day i went back to school I got a 61 before lunch time, but I'm sure I will experience something lower than that one day.
I'm not sure exactly, but something in the very low 20s, I think. I don't remember much about it except that I felt very disoriented and that my lips felt numb...which is strange.
