It annoys me when someone says something like "Aw, too bad you can't have this because you're diabetic!"
Wow, that makes me feel SO much better. :

How ignorant!!!! She doesn't deserve to have you as a daughter-in-law.
"I could NEVER give myself shots/poke my fingers every day!"
There's a few.
1. "Oh that's the bad one."
2. "Don't you get that from being fat?"
3. "You sure you can eat that?"
4."I couldn't do that." Really? Do you think I choose to? It's death or this, so it's annoying to here this.
5. "I understand how you feel because my grandma has it."
Is that your pager?? I hate when people refer my pump to a pager..
"do you have the bad kind of diabetes?"
i dont even know how to answer that when they ask.
or when they question what im eating.
My ex boyfriend used to say I had "a crusty pancreas"...obviously he was just joking around with me, it was not meant to be mean. I always thought it was kind of funny.
I always get that one
I always seem to get "You know, there's a certain tea you can drink and it cures that" or the always popular "When are you going to grow out of it?" One time, a waitress saw me giving a shot and came over with this sad look on her face. She went on to say "you're such a trooper, I would just kill myself if I ever had to do that" I was so embaressed. It's funny after a while. I used to get peeved, but now I just remind myself that I went through years of education, and they're on the outside looking in.
I totally understand what you are saying. Most people that are uneducated about it, mainly come up to me and are like "should you be eating that?". I mean diabetic people can eat whatever they want!!! haha
The " You can't eat that, that has sugar."
"Lemme get your insulin pen! Your eating a cookie!"
"Oh, your the diabetic. Ill have diet soda at my party for you."
"Don't touch me, its contagious!" It was a joke, but she really did say that :/
"Do you still have it?"
Oh man...your pump site goes in there? Grosssss"
"You should eat carbs before you play or else you'll pass out/"
Thanks.
Ours is take care of youself and you won't need the meds....
1." Are you all right you seem agitated? Oh yeah is it your bloodsugar? ,,I forget sometimes you have sugar issues that can make you unbalanced." said by my manager while I was unloading a truck by myself at work (Toys R Us) last week and I didn't notice I was having a low bloodsugar. I was almost tempted to use what strength I had left to throw a kitchen set or a bike out of the truck at him......Agitated???? Being undervalued, overlooked, treated like a leper by fellow employees, not given my breaks and lunches on time , and not given enough hours to pay bills/rent let alone buy medication may make me somewhat "irrational" at times but agitated? What on earth would make him start to think that?
2. "You don't look so good. You sick or something What are you doing with those needles and all that medication?" My response ....." Yeah lady I am a diabetic with an insulin dependency issue ." She looked really bewildered and confused after that. I chuckled and said "Don't worry this is just something I have to do to stay alive."
3. Waiter at an Applebees, "What would you like to drink?" Me: "I would like a Diet Coke." Her" You sure you don't want anything else?" Me: " Yeah I am Diabetic so I am pretty sure but thank you ." Her without hesitation " Wow you don't look overweight." Me: Vein popping out of my forehead and eyebrow rasied to alert status at this point according to my friend sitting across from me: " No I am a type one diabetic." She brought me a regular Coke with my meal.......
4. Co-worker " So what is like having been sick most of your life." .......My response," Not really sure..... but maybe you could tell me what its like to be healthy most of your life and then we could compare notes to see if there is any difference."
5. Co-worker walks in on me taking my bloodsugar and medication in the restroom," Is that a needle? Is that blood on your finger? What are all those bottles and pills for? Are you on drugs or sick and is it contagious? I would much rather you did that on your own time and somewhere else." ...... I pause for moment to allow him to absorb all that he has seen and to restrain my deep seeded temper and then reply, " Perhaps you would be more at ease if I did not take care of myself, skipped my meds and in about two to three hours was flopping like dying fish on the floor without any water in front of you and the rest of world. Now if you dont mind I going to do what I have had to do six times a day for the last twenty three years and the rest of my life to stay alive. If you don't like it you can exit the same way you just came in."
Sorry kids, diplomacy only gets you so far with some people and I have learned over the years to bite back when needed.
My mother, my wife, and some of my friends have annoyed me many times by insisting that I am acting funny, or talking funny and so I should test and eat something. To avoid this I would have to be calm and never silly, never say or do anything out of the ordinary. If I even move funny or have a funny look on my face, my wife wants me to test. I hate this!!!!
Hey Richard you are typing funny. Maybe you should test;)
When ur blood sugar is low and ur eating candy and juice or lots of sugar and people around you start telling you to stop and take a insulin!
the most annoying thing i hear from non-diabetics is "thats for fat people" and "just get sugar free stuff"
"THAT'S WHAT YOU GET FOR EATING SO MUCH CRAP!"
THATS TYPE 2 -__-
I DONT MIND ABOUT THE DIET COKE AT THE PARTY. THAT JUST SAVES ME MONEY :D LOL
Nothing like when family completely forgets i am diabetic and ask if i want orange juice, milk, a soda (not diet) as i am done injecting myself and just give them the "WTF?" stare...
That and when co-workers think i am not diabetic though the day before i had to tell em what Type 1 Diabetes was... OR when Co-workers tell EVERY customer that i am a diabetic... like everyone that comes in needs to know...
That and having the low blood sugar spells and go eat a glucose tablet and then everyone ask if i need to go to the hospital.. Or when i am just tired and my family freaks out that i am high though i just checked my blood sugar and it was 80...
That's about it. lol
