The word 'diabetes'

I strongly believe that Type 1 Diabetes needs a new name that is more specific and descriptive of the condition, and that will give it distinction from Type 2.  I can't even explain the frustration I feel when I hear people talk about type 2 on the news and just call it "diabetes."  I personally think the name "autoimmune-mediated insulin deficiency" would be perfect...although the acronym AIMID kind of sucks.  When I eventually because a registered dietitian and a pump/T1 educator, I plan on campaigning to change the name.

I absolutely agree with this. Diabetes has made me the person I am and I don't think that there is anything wrong with using the word. It's the truth and there is not reason to deny it or avoid it. It will always be there anyway..
