What set is he using?  I use a Minimed pump and started with Quick-Sets (which I had many problems with) and then switched to Silhouettes.  I now also use Sure-Ts along with the Sils.  The Sure-T (also called Contact Detach for luer lock pumps) is a tiny steel cannula, 6mm long.  It's very easy to insert and I find that I can use it on parts of my body where I wouldn't be able to use other sets.  Using another type of set might allow you to use different areas and give the old sites a chance to heal.

Yael. I am currently 32 weeks pregnant and have have T1 for 23 years.  I am on the pump and have been for over 6 years.  I love it.  I have to say though, I didn't really take care of myself even on the pump before I got pregnant.  My doctor told me I would have an even harder time throughout the pregnancy.  However, I have had the best bloodsugars ever since being pregnant.  I watch my sugar levels a lot more closely now that I have somebody else in my body to take care of, but I seriously owe it all to the pump.  It would have been a thousand times harder to do this pregnancy without it.  I can eat what I want when I want and if I am feeling sick I don't have to eat and all I have to do is hit a button on my pump.  It is truely a great thing especially during pregnancy.  Just my advice!!

Abbie,

I've read through all of the replies to your post and am surprised that some are so locked into the concept of the pump. Like the others, I too have chosen not to bother with the pump. Maybe I am lucky in that I have good control without it and I don't see why I need to introduce a new set of hassles for little gain for me.

Now to answer your question. I'm on 2 shots in the morning ( I use pens. Soooo much better than syringes. I changed over only 8 months ago ). I have Humulin R and Humulin NPH. In the evening I have 1 shot of Humulin R.

I've read quite a few posts in this and other forums that say negative things about the R and NPH. I don't have anything negative to report about them. I started 35 years ago on the old REGULAR and ISOPHANE and have just migrated to the R and NPH. I even converted myself across to the human insulins when I was working in Saudi Arabia. That was a nervous time, but I managed it without much fuss.

Alex

I have been on the pump for two years and I actually have an appointment next week to talk with my endo, because I want to go back on shots.  Before the pump I was on Lantus and Humalog, and that worked fine for me.  I just really don't like the pump anymore.  It doesnt really work with me either.  I was starting to think I was the only one who didn't like it!
