DDrumminMan and I have similar opinions about the whole shot versus the pump thing.
I look at it like this, I take my injection (4x/day and corrections as needed) and I'm done, that's what works for me. I'd say for me, it doesn't hurt 99% of the time. I basically use my belly only. I'm not interested in the pump (being attached every second of everyday) in the future my opinion may change. I also do not like when others (including my endo) try to push the pump on me, I get irritated. If I say, " I am not intrested", I will tell them "please don't press the issue, you're likely to make me very upset and I also mention that the pump is not for everyone !!! Let me say I do understand they're trying to be helpful. Just because so and so is on the pump with great control, doesn't mean it'll work for me, every T1 is different. This is strictly my personal viewpoint, but I'm sure there a small group of others on MDI that would agree.
I am very happy for those who love and have great success with their pump and mean no offense of any kind. If you're interested I wish you all the best for your journey. : )
I'm sorry if I have offended anyone, I'm just venting. This is something I've been dealing alot with lately.
I will bring up the pump idea every once in a while-so many people here seem to love it. But my daughter said the idea of having something on her is the problem. She thinks it would be in her way and be a constant reminder of d. I think if she would just try the pump-it would settle the issue. I just don't want her to miss out on something that might be a good thing. I also think if she wore the pump a while she would forget it is there and it would not be a constant reminder.........Whatever-She will make that choice and it is hers to make :)
I was on shots for 7 years (3-4 a day) but I used a combination of NPH, R, and Humalog so I couldn't eat whatever I wanted which is why I love the pump. When I've had to give myself I shot it usually hurts a little but it really doesn't bother me that much. Still, I would never want to switch back! I remember trying Lantus when I went on vacation after I ran out of sets for my pump because of the sand/salt at the beach where I was on vacation --> worst experience ever. A shot every time I wanted to eat was awful.
I've been using shots for 19 years now and I'm comfortable using them, but they still hurt from time to time. Getting bruises can be annoying too. I have yet to use the pump. I think I rejected getting it when I was young because I thought other people will be able to see it and reject me for being "different." Plus I didn't want to be reminded of having T1. Yeah I know, naive thinking of a adolescent. I wouldn't mind trying out the pump now though.
I've been on the pump for 8 years now, and I really never did mind giving the shots. I started using the pump for better control, not to stop taking shots...Its kind of funny, I think injecting myself with my infusion set is more painful then giving a shot!
i'm shots all the way...95% of the time they dont' hurt at all and I can hardly feel them....its just that other 5% that sometimes hurts a lot! ..I think i'm an odd one out, because I tried the pump once on a 3 month trial period and i hated it. I found the needles hurt more, and i was always seeming to get the tubing caught on things! haha i guess its good that i don't mind the shots at least:)
I have been on the pump for 1 year now. I took 4-10 shots per day for the previous 20 years. No preference but if I had to do shots again only done by me. Anyone else makes it very painful?
