On January 26th, 2010 I'll hit my 30 yr. mark. Thanks for posting this because I had no idea there were any medals and/or certificates. I'm going to apply for one!
Hi Tom! Any advice for those of us who "only" have 27 years down about how you made it to 60? What have you done to stay healthy? I'd love to know.
Many thanks!

It's a lot of days, but you just have to take one day at a time, and do the best you know how. Every once in a while you will find something new, like I didn't start bicycle riding until I had about 35 years, and that was one of the best decisions I ever made. It took me another 30 years, but I have now logged over 100,000 miles on my bicycle(s). And I didn't start using an insulin pump until I had been injecting for 52 years, but next week it will be 14 years on pumps. Before I started pumping I had a great many severe hypos, and it seemed like one of them would probably be the end of me, but, fortunately, pumps have changed all that.
Joslin requires each applicant for the medal to produce evidence of the date of diagnosis. As each year goes by, more and more of your evidence seems to disappear. Your parents aren't going to live forever, nor is your diagnosing doctor. And hospitals don't keep their records forever. So get in touch with Joslin and Lilly now, while your evidence is still tangible. Once they have it, you won't have to dig it up again, and you will be all set for when it comes time for you to receive your medal. Unfortunately, I had to learn this the hard way.

Drew Brees won...for the American Cancer Society. :( It sounds so mean but-- it seems like the ACS always wins stuff.
I had a feeling JDRF wouldn't win just because T1 diabetes is the cause the public is less aware of which, ironically, is exactly the reason it should have won.
