Hi Guys,
I am looking for advice and counsel on an indoor cycling fundraiser that our organization (The Sonia NAbeta FOundation – named after a T1Dwarrior who joined the angels on August 5, 2015), is planning to host to benefit Type 1 diabetes in Africa where the struggles are so wildly different (my huffpost article also published by Beyond Type 1 explains - The Woeful Struggles of Type 1 Diabetes in Africa and the Path to a Possible Solution | HuffPost The World Post)
So we are hosting our first wellness and education camp for children with Type 1 in Uganda August 21 to 25th so we would like to raise money through a spin-a-thon in New York on August 6, 2016 (to mark the one year anniversary of the passing of T1D Warrior Sonia Nabeta). The goal is to raise $10,000 so each rider would have a goal of raising about $500. I would very much like to have the T1D community in New York engaged especially the athletic community to participate in the cycle-a-thon. It would be such an encouraging message for the community in Uganda. So my question is
- where do i find New York chapter of T1D athletes so i can engage with them about this.
- Is $500 a reasonable target for each cyclist?
- What would excite people about the event and encourage them to participate
It would be incredible to have the T1D communities as ambassadors showcasIng what they can do athletically to the children in Africa and also raise money at the same time.
Looking forward to any advice
Thank you so much
Very warm regards,
Vivian
