I've never used it and it's been about 34 years since I was diagnosed.
i've never used glucagon. ad ive had diabetes 10 years
i have had to use it twice. once about a year after my diagnosis I had been horseback riding all day came home to an empty house and passed out on the couch my mom came home several hours later to find me there completly out of it she didn't even test me she just shot me up with the glucagon and within 10 minutes i was awake. it gave me a killer headache though because it brings your glucose level up so fast. the other time a paramedic had to give it to me because i was so combative once when i got really low that i wouldn't eat or drink anything willingly so me boyfreind at the time called an ambulance and they came and gave me a glucagan shot.

i was given the choice of either having 2 glucagons shot in my leg or a three day stay in the hospital i didnt hesitate on the glucagon idea
my thighs killed after that nite!!!!

Wait a minute? You were rational enough to make the choice but not rational enough to choke down some OJ? Maybe it was your only choice; I.e., because Glucagon should only be used if the DM I is unconscious or vomitting. It just seems to me that if you are conscious, IV dextrose would be a better option in an ER, then discharge home.
I myself have never had it. My brother says it made him extremely nauseous. Only one person who replied to this post indicated that it made them sick.
Do they really get 'expired"? I mean, what is in it that could go bad? We do throw away any that are expired, but I'm not sure why??
I'm not sure what happens when they get 'expired'. I bet that in a lot of cases it would still work fine, if it's only a few months past the expiration date. It'd be interesting to set up an experiment about expired glucagon, but not on people of course! I do know that expired EpiPens don't work, though, because of a very sad event that happened a few years ago in my town.
I've never used glucagon, but I've had one situation where it should have been used. I was on vacation with my dad and brother, and one morning, I wouldn't wake up due to extremely low blood sugar. My dad and aunt rubbed frosting on my gums and tried to get me to drink juice, so I awoke after an hour or so, although it was lucky that I didn't aspirate any of that. You should never try to feed an unconscious person.
Unfortunately, once when I was younger. I think I've learned from that one though so I hope never again.

the expiry date is a really long time. we probably picked that thing up shortly after i was diagnosed 15years ago, my mom can't remember how old i was but as long as she could remember when moving it's been in my diabetic box. i threw it out cuz it had expired two years ago apparently...it's probably like with milk and stuff that have expiry dates but often are fine for days past, they aren't promising that it's good anymore or that it'll work.
Not a single one in almost 67 years. I don't know when glucagon first became available, but I'm pretty sure it was less than 67 years ago.

I find it very odd to see the vasy disparity between those that have and those who have not. I mean it is good in a sense for those that have not, but I always figured it was a right of passage almost.
I didn't keep track! I passed out a lot as a little kid! but since starting high school, only once...
I hate it though! gives me horrible migraines and makes me nauseus :(
Only three times in 12 years of diabetes
really i was also just diagnosed in december !
Never in 29 years of this disease :) Thankful for that too!
I have never used the glucagon on my son. It's been 5 years and everytime the glucagon expires, we jump for joy! Glad to hear not too many have used it. It's important to carry it at all times, but it's also a relief when we don't have to use it.

I've never been injected with glucagon but last year it was close. My friends and I were driving home from a concert in Chicago and i was just tired, not low, and i fell asleep in the back of the car. Before i knew it the car was pulled over and i woke up to my friends riffling through my purse looking for my kit because they didn't see me fall asleep. After that we had a long talk about making sure that the blood sugar was checked before the injection.
