This article explains a bit more about the plots of the movies. Sounds like it may be interesting...

39 years in a coma! Wow.
I would love to see these films, regardless of their genre.

Hi stilledlife. Thanks for asking me over. I really appreciate the opportunity to talk a little more about my work and to hear what other people think. It looks like a great community you've got here. I realise that horror isn't everyone's cup of tea which is why we actively warn people going to our website not to enter if they are either under 18 or else suffer with anxiety or depression about their condition. The last thing I would ever want to do is upset anyone with diabetes!
The reasons I wanted to work in this particular genre are numerous. Firstly, the old documentary formats no longer have the power to get people talking anymore. Unfortunately it takes something much more radical to stimulate discussion these days. I also like the idea that the horror genre has always been a cautionary one.... through watching scary movies we learn the folly of going into an old abandoned house late at night, or straying from the path in the woods etc. My hope is that if Sugar Drop is unsettling the next thing you do is mentally make a note never to put yourself in a similar set of circumstances (i.e don't ever go in a lift without glucose on you!). I also wanted to make people realise that it's okay to say that diabetes, from time to time, is in fact scary. Having been diagnosed at the age of four, I spent years hiding my fears away from the world. Lastly, I hope that the first film might prompt non-sufferers who see it to strike up a conversation with workmates/associates with the condition, even if it is simply 'what is it like to have a hypo?' and 'what should I do to help?'. Unfortunately I often find that because our illness is invisible people often assume that there is nothing they ought to be aware of
If you'd like to see a short teaser trailer then, bearing in mind the warnings above, then pop over to www.sugardropmovie.co.uk. There's also a copy of our press release over at http://www.derby.ac.uk/news/film-experts-horror-trilogy-explores-diabetics-real-fears
I hope you like what you see; we've aimed for something much more art house/avant-garde than big budget Hollywood (everyone involved gave their time for free; we actually had no budget). Think Let The Right One In meets diabetes
Apologies for the length of this reply and I hope other members of the community don't feel I'm trespassing where my opnions are not wanted!
Kindest regards -
Tom

i didn't think i could get any more interested/excited...but i was wrong!
Thanks for posting the link to the web site and trailer. I can't wait to see the films.
Appreciate the post and the link for the teaser. I am definitely interested in the full film.
I watched the teaser and to be honest I still have no idea what's up. I'll definitely watch it when it comes out. Looked pretty much like just stock footage all put together into a nice 0:45 package. You know, city from the air, eyeball, girl jumping rope, whatever.
Thanks for letting us know about it and I'll know when it comes out becuase now I'm on the email list!
ok. i was thinking with the horror film theme people might become terrified of us. the movie sounds like it will make the audience understand just how bad diabetes can be.

?? where did you find a mailing list?
Appreciate the interest. After much debate we opted for a more European style, deliberately ambiguous teaser rather than something mainstream as anyone hoping for a Rob Zombie/Eli Roth type movie is going to be really disappointed! It's also really hard when the running length of the finished product is so short not to give too much away in the trailer!

[/quote]Just realised how horribly un-obvious our mailing list is! Many apologies. If you go to the 'Watch Film' section you can sign up there
haha..i didnt even think to check there. thanks!!
Yeah I kindof figured you don't want to give too much away with the trailer. You want to leave them wanting more and chomping at the bit to see it! Still, I was hoping for a little more. But I'm sure you know what you're doing ;)
Yeah I found the mailing list because I clicked on "Watch Movie" thinking that would be the trailer. Then I put in my email address thinking then it'd take me on in to see it. It didn't. Then I saw "Watch Trailer". Doh. Oh well, at least now I'll know when it comes out.
This article mentions a few films which featured "diabetic content," namely "Panic Room," "Steel Magnolias," and "Con Air." I recall seeing "Con Air," but will have to rent the other two. Both seem interesting. Here's a link to the article: DIABETES IN THE MOVIES
Other health conditions, such as cancer, blindness and mental illness, have had many movies created around them. Who can forget "Wait Until Dark" (blindness with Audrey Hepburn) or "The Miracle Worker" (Helen Keller Story with Pattie Duke), or "Rain Man" (Autism with Dustin Hoffman) or "Psycho" or "David and Lisa" (one of my personal favorites). I guess these films are generally drama but with "horror" or even "comedy" elements.
What's your favorite "Illness Film?"
Here is the opening sequence of "The Panic Room" on Youtube: OPENING SEQUENCE
Here's "The Panic Room" trailer: PANIC ROOM TRAILER
and here's a scene featuring a shot of insulin (this is scary - beware): SCARY SHOT SCENE
wow paul that is scary i never knew this movie exhisted
Horror movies are my favorite genre and I believe this one will be interesting.
I can't wait to see the whole movie : )
Paul,
Steel Magnolias (in my opinion) was really good but also sad. It's worth watching atleast once.

I've always been a bit freaked out about being stuck in an elevator w/o food too!
Panic Room was pretty good. Had a solid cast: Jodie Foster, Forest Whitaker, Jared Leto, Dwight Yoakam, and Kristen Stewart. Directed by David Fincher who did Seven, Zodiac, and Alien 3.
i hated panic room..i think it was the whole diabetic stuff that made me hate it the most though. not really sure why. it's been a while since i saw it(and i've never seen the whole thing in one sitting).
i didn't like panic room, but i liked zodiac. a lot. but i'm also big fans of both robert downey jr. AND jake gyllenhaal. so that movie was pretty much a winner once it casted ;o)
