I know teachers get a lot of cut-downs on this site, but please know that being a teacher is a difficult job and many of them do not understand our disease
Thanks for reminding us of that. So many of us have bad experiences with one teacher that it makes us dislike all of them. That isn't fair, of course, but that one teacher ruins the chance for the others.
My calculus teacher can tell if I'm going low before I even realize it
So could my science teacher last year! She'd be like, "Maria, why don't you go test?" She was the best. Actually she's the cross country coach, so I get her for 3 years! Yay!
Yeah it gets annoying, i passed out in 6th grade so my teachers are kinda over protective somtimes. i have had teachers who i literally threw my pump at when she told me to take it off, i have stormed out of the classroom when the teacher wouldn't let me not take my test because i was 425. but since then my mom has emailed all my teachers saying that if im low someone has to go with me to the nurse.... But the i have amazing teachers too i've had the samme math teacher for 3 yrs. now she keeps moving up with me and i was in her class when i passed out and she visited me in the hospital.i cant really hate too much on them because my mom is one, i have been very blessed to have such amazing teachers and admin. aftr 3 yrs im very close to almost everyone.
Lauren, My son was just diagnosed last month. He is 5 and starts kindergarten this fall. I would love to hear any ideas or insights you have about being a child with diabetes, in school or just dealing with anything you would like to share to help me to help him. It is good to hear about your experiences and you sound like you will make a great teacher!
man i remember last year my English teacher had these poster things that showed what the symptoms were for high and low blood sugar all of my teachers were really cool about it. now this year im the first diabetic at my school which is 3 years old so the teachers r a little ...blah... when i need to do some thing but its really nice because now i carry my stuff with me and its not all the way across campus (not that it matters now we only have 4 class rooms) and if i need to change my set i just text my sis to bring me my stuff and i change it in the principles office. its really cool.
continuous glucose monitor. little gadget u insert, and it will constantly measure ur sugar w/o u testing. the one my sis tried sent the readings to her pump and alarmed when she went out of her range.
