I agree. My husband has called Dexcom several times about our son’s failed sensors during this spring and summer. Last year, there were maybe two failed sensors for the entire year. Dexcom is probably short staffed due to COVID in the customer service and production departments, which makes it frustrating for the end user.
Dexcom has a FREE overpatch. They work very well for me. Go to the Dexcom website and fill out the request. If you are Eastern or Central time zones, they are shipped out of MS near Memphis.
Sorry you’re having trouble. Yesterday my daughters G6 transmitter just suddenly quit for no apparent reason. It should have lasted another 2 months. Of course I don’t have an extra on hand because insurance won’t let you get another until its time. Dexcom supposedly overnighted one. I hope I get it quicker than you. My daughter wears the tandem t-slim using control IQ. I’m doing a lot of finger sticks and can’t wait for the CGM to arrive.
Hi Clair
I did receive the transmitter; I doubt anyone has an extra on hand, so frequent finger are just about the only option. I don’t think I could obtain a Libre system for those hopefully rare times that something like this occurs. The one thing I have learned is to request overnight shipping, and hope they do it. By the way, there was no shipping label with the “return kit” so that necessitated another call to them. I’m hoping that I’m done with issues for now. Good luck to you and your daughter.
Has anyone gotten a bad batch of
G6 sensors before? We have never had anything except the once in awhile sensor error before but we had 4 sensors from the same lot fail this week. 3 had the plastic piece that holds the transmitter fall completely off the white patch within 1-3 days of insertion as if it didn’t have adhesive applied correctly and 1 got stuck in the applicator and we were told to shove a fork in it and hit it (I’m not joking) to retract the needle while it was in my sons arm. The white patch and overlay were in pristine condition for the ones that fell off. Dexcom is replacing them but I have 2 boxes left of the same lot and I can’t swap them. As a newer t1d mom it’s making me nervous!
@Hmgrunst. Holly, there are some other posts about all of the sensors with a certain lot number failing.
As a mom, you are right to be nervous about the course your child is on. Check with the CDE (Certified Diabetes Educator) in your child’s doctor’s office and see if the CDE has contact with the local DexCom representative in your area. There may be a backdoor to getting you new sensors. The CDE may have other helpful ideas also.
Please share what happens as your sharing will help us all learn.
@Hmgrunst Hi Holly, and welcome to the JDRF TypeOneNation Forum!
Like any manufactured device, there is always the possibility for defect or failure; thankfully, medical devices have a narrower failure window than things like automobiles. I’ve been using real-time Dexcom sensors for a couple of years, and have not had the experience your son recently experienced.
As for the possibility that other sensors with the same lot number will fail in a similar manner is an unknown. When you spoke with the Dexcom Representative, were you asked the lot number?
