Hello,
another little tip from Sottiletta .
In geometry we say that if you have only a point you can draw an infinite amount of lines that are passing for that point. When you take in the morning a sugar check and it is quite high you have a point but you cannot be sure about the problem you are dealing with.
This is my strategy. Let’s say in the morning I have 200 mg/Dl of sugar level . Obviously I have detected a problem but I still do not know his face. I inject my 8 units of Lantus and I inject 7 Units of Humalog. When you are in a perfect condition each Unit of Humalog is capable to reduce 40mg/Dl of sugar level. It means that 3 of them are enough to bring my sugar level at 80mg/Dl and the other 4 are for my breakfast. I wait 40 minutes during which I prepare myself. Then I check my sugar level:
1 - If I read something between 100 - 150 it means the insulin is working great and probably something eaten the day before was assimilated late in the night (this is important!). Time for breakfast.
2 - Sugar level still 200 . I may have an insulin resistance because the sugar level was high for several hours during the night. I do simple exercise at home to ‘break the insulin resistance’ . I discovered that sometimes an intense work out for 1 minute only magically make the insulin work. I check the sugar level. It is 100- 150…great…I have breakfast…
3 - The Sugar level is still high. Time to check the pens for insulin and change both of them. Check the region where I have done insulin to see if there is anything wrong. wait up to 1 hour…if the sugar level is still high do a small amount of new Units and check again in 25 minutes. If I see a change there is a big possibility insulin was a bit weak or I forgot to take Lantus the night before.
Obviously this is my way…we all have to find our personal adjustment but in my view to understand well what we are dealing with 2 measures of Sugar level in case of Hiperglicemia are more effective than one because they are capable to express the ‘insulin action speed’ and with it our real condition.
