Good luck to you. Everyone has told me to go to the pump...go towards the pump (lol). But it hasn't fit my lifestyle and definitely not my insurance. I will be interested to hear how things progress with you. Best as you move ahead :)
Batts... this is sooo exciting for you. im sure you will love the pump... Im not on the pump btw but really want to be. I wanted to ask you what insurance group you are going through because currently my husband's insurance won't cover it according to medtronic. Did you have to go through extra steps to get them to cover the pump or did you jsut ask and they said yes?
I really want a ping. I actuallyl just met with the sales rep this past week but alas 7000 dollars is a HUGE bill to pay if there is nothing covered by our insurance.

Ok, here's comes my post from my cynical side!
It's nice that Animas dropped the price. But really, it was just insurance gamesmanship on their part. They tried to get as much as they could from the insurance company. When the insurance didn't suck in, they, as we say in the business, dropped their shorts to get the sale. I'm sure they still made a handsome profit.
About 10 years ago I had an 80/20 insurance plan. I got my diabetic supplies for free. A mail order company would inflate the prices and bill the insurance company. They were happy and profitable with the 80% they got from the insurance company.
But, good job negotiating with them and I'm glad it worked out.

yeah no i'm not surprised they dropped the price, but i am really happy they did!

i have pacific blue cross. i called them ahead of time to ask if there were any pumps they wouldn't cover and the dude said no, it just had to go through an approval process. the first attempt they refused and said if they got a letter from my doctor stating why i needed one(he had just faxed in the form animas gave me where he had to check some stuff off and give a few of my last A1Cs) that they would re-open the claim. apparently it's pretty common for insurance companies to say no the first time, and yes after they have a letter from your endo.
Thanx for the quick reply batts...
Very interesting, so just to be clear if I get my endo to fill out the form that animas gave me the chances of me getting a pump covered are higher?... or did you have to get a different letter from your doctor?
thnx for the info... its good to know that they will say no but possibly change their minds later... stupid insurance companies... but it gives me hope! :D
originally i had him fill out the paper work that animas gets you to download, print off and fax to them so they can deal with you insurance company. there's a page in it that your endo has to sign and fill out. my insurance company didn't think that was enough, so they rejected my first claim.
when i called them to find out WHY, they said they needed a letter from my endo explaining why i couldn't physically give myself insulin and needed a pump aka not being able to control my diabetes with injections. so i called my endo, he wrote a letter and faxed it to them and two-three weeks later it got approved,
so i get trained next week but i just got the pump today.
it's neon green.
I have the green Ping, too. (=
it doesn't go with my purple and pink hair but i <3 green (haha)
Can't you just change your hair green?
no no green is the one colour i wont do cuz it won't look good.
Good to know, not that I plan on dying my hair anytime soon. I tried to do blue once in college, but my friend and I did something wrong and it never really did much. I did once do a Fire Engine Red though.
